This distinctive decorative style hails from the Kharkiv, Luhansk, and Donetsk regions of Ukraine. Traditionally used to adorn both the exterior and interior of Ukrainian homes, its most fascinating feature is that most patterns are created using the artist’s fingers rather than brushes.
While this art nearly disappeared during the 20th century, it has been vibrantly revived in independent Ukraine, continuing to preserve our rich cultural heritage.
