Sculpture Social: Reunion by Ceirra Evans

Pack a picnic and celebrate Artist-in-Residence Ceirra Evans’ Reunion, a sculptural installation and social practice project that celebrates the everyday stories and resilience of local people using art and food as connectors, bridging cultural, geographic, and generational gaps.
We will gather in the Josephine Sculpture Park event barn to hear stories from Kentucky farmers and food justice leaders Robin Verson of Hill & Hollow Farm (Edmonton, KY), Mariel Gardener of West End Women’s Collective (Louisville, KY), LaToya Drake of University of Kentucky Food Connection (Lexington, KY) and Angel Ballew of Ballew Farms (Richmond, KY), moderated by Ceirra.
Then family reunion style, we’ll enjoy a picnic around shared tables and swap stories of our own.
We’ll end the night by visiting Ceirra’s sculpture and learning more about the artists’ journey creating Reunion.
All ages are welcome! Please register using the link below so we know how many folks to expect, and please pack a picnic. We will gather rain or shine.
Ceirra Evans is a Kentucky (US) based painter depicting queer, Appalachian and rural narratives. Ceirra’s work has been reviewed by Hyperallergic, The New Yorker and other publications. In 2026, her painting “Fixin’ to Rain” was acquisitioned by The Ogden Museum of Southern Art (New Orleans, LA). Recent solo show highlights include “A Wild W**d” at Perspective Gallery (Paris, France) and “Come Rain or Shine” at Institute 193 (Lexington, KY). Her work is held in multiple private collections in the United States and UK. Ceirra has a degree in Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies from Spalding University (Louisville, KY).
Her work at Josephine Sculpture Park, Reunion, transforms Ceirra’s personal history of communal meals at family gatherings in rural Eastern Kentucky into shared experience through the language of food, memory and hospitality. Explore Ceirra's work at www.ceirraevans.com.
Josephine Sculpture Park’s Immersive Artist-in-Residence program provides artists a career-boosting opportunity to make new outdoor work on a large-scale, with the physical space and technical and financial support to succeed. JSP is free and open daily from dawn to dusk and hosts over 70 artworks across 2 miles of trails!
