Save our Saltmarsh working bee - Patawalonga SA

Help bring the Patawalonga’s saltmarsh habitats back to life. Join us for a hands-on restoration day, clearing weeds and debris to support the coastal ecosystems that underpin our local fisheries.
Saltmarshes are among the most productive and biodiverse coastal ecosystems in South Australia. These saltmarshes provide nursery habitat for key recreational species like Bream, Mulloway and Mullet, as well as small invertebrates – a major food source for our key species. They also stabilise shorelines and sequester blue carbon. In the Patawalonga, saltmarshes are among the only native vegetation remaining, making them vital fish habitat.
During a series of sessions between August and November, we’ll be working to rehabilitate and support these saltmarsh patches by:
- Removing invasive weeds to allow native saltmarsh species to re-establish.
- Clearing saltmarsh patches of any debris and rubbish that’s smothering the plants.

What to bring:
- Enclosed shoes, gumboots or waders (your feet might get wet)
- Weather-appropriate clothing
- Long trousers
- Insect repellent
- Hat and sunscreen
- Water bottle
- Gloves (optional - some will be provided)
All equipment for litter collection, W**d removal and surveys will be supplied.
