The Journey
What can operating in Antarctica, working with communities in Kenya and getting lost in the Alaskan wilderness teach us about life and leadership?
In this 45-minute talk, Noel shares a collection of extraordinary, funny and deeply human stories from a life spent working, travelling and leading around the world. From performing surgery in the isolation of Antarctica and reflecting on the lives of AIDS patients in Kenya, to wrestling a bull in a Darwin shopping centre, each experience offers an unexpected lesson in courage, humility and human connection.
Through these stories, Noel explores why the most meaningful leadership doesn’t always begin with having the answers. Sometimes, it begins with listening, staying curious and being willing to step into the unknown.
Your Speaker: Noel Mifsud JP
Noel Mifsud JP is Manager of Community Relations for Rex Minerals, Chief Executive Officer of Malteser International Asia Pacific, and a Justice of the Peace in South Australia. He currently serves on six boards, including Chair of the Ministerial Multicultural Education and Languages Committee and Education Standards Board member.
Noel is one of the few people in the world to have worked in education and humanitarian relief on every continent, including Antarctica, where he served as Station Leader at Casey Station during the winter of 1992.
His colourful career has included service as a Captain in the Army Education Corps, Deputy Coroner in the ACT, and 20 years as principal of two schools in South Australia and in a remote Northern Territory Aboriginal community on the Tiwi Islands.
Noel was named one of Australia’s Most Influential Educational Leaders by The Educator in 2024, 2025 and 2026, and was recognised for outstanding service to the South Australian community in 2024. In 2025,
Noel delivered an address at the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Conference in New York alongside the former Chief Justice of South Australia.
