Sapphic Crafting with Archive Dive

Join Archive Dive x Calgary Sapphics (@yycsapphics) for an evening of Archive exploration and crafting! We encourage attendees to bring supplies they'd like to craft with, however, supplies will be provided.

The Archive Dive (@QueerArchiveDive) project brings an Edmonton lesbian archive into community spaces to convene themed conversations about lesbian and queer history, culture and identity. This collection includes newsletters, books, an oral history and other resources dating back to the early 1980s. Unlike formal archives which are mostly accessed solo and in protected environments, the Archive Dive collection visits classes, libraries, arts spaces, coffee shops, pub trivia nights and other informal settings.

The project goals are:

• To promote social connections especially for lesbian, queer and trans people.

• To raise awareness of lesbian history and to counter lesbian erasure.

• To build opportunities for inter-generational and trans-inclusive dialogue.

Archive Dive is coordinated by Kristy Harcourt, the current steward of the archive. Kristy Harcourt (she/her) is a social worker and educator with a long history of involvement in Alberta 2SLGBTQ community organizing.

Event Itinerary:

4:45pm: Doors open

5:15pm - 6:15pm: Presentation of The Archive Dive project by Kristy Harcourt

6:15pm - 7:30pm: Time to explore The Archive and craft

Admission Cost: Pay What You Can (PWYC)/By Donation. Funds raised will go towards the purchase of crafting supplies and refreshments.

• The Memorial Park Library is a fully wheelchair-accessible environment
• Meeting Room 1 (where the event will be taking place) is located on the lower level of the library. The room has carpeted floors, 3 large exterior windows with shades, fluorescent lighting (which can be dimmed), a wall-mounted TV, a projection screen, a whiteboard, and a coat rack.
• Light refreshments will be provided
