Rough Music Rhyme Time
About this Event
Come and join us at Shoe Lane Library for Rough Music Rhyme Time.
A participatory session connecting the radical tradition of Rough Music — street protest through noise, rhythm and improvised sound — with the familiar world of nursery rhymes. Inspired by E.P. Thompson's essay Rough Music Reconsidered, the work of Jack Zipes on nursery rhyme standards, and the Bonfire Society parades at the annual Bonfire Night in Lewes.
Families are welcomed in as the session builds. Spontaneous interjection and improvisation are actively encouraged. No instruments needed.
Every participating child takes home a Rough Music Rhythm Reading Stick.
This is a free event, suitable for children of all ages. If you have any questions, please email us at [email protected]
