Schenectady on the Frontier
Michael Diana, Schenectady County Historical Society
Throughout the Colonial Period, empires vied for control over the Mohawk and Hudson Rivers. The small settlement of Schenectady was often caught in the crossfire. This presentation discusses how the people of Schenectady navigated the shifting balance of power and tenuous loyalties that defined the 18th century and set the stage for a Revolution.
Michael Diana is the Historian and Director of Education at the Schenectady County Historical Society. Since 2017, he had led programs covering a broad range of local history subjects.
Revolutionary Lives, a free series of events, is produced by the Folklife Center at Crandall Public Library to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Battles of Saratoga with these presentations, an exhibition, and an online StoryMap, thanks to generous grant funding from the Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership, with additional support from the New York State Council on the Arts supported by the Governor's Office and the New York State Legislature.
