Independent researcher Michael Allen is back at WPL for his annual Spring Bear Update. We’ll start with a brief recap of last fall’s excellent salmon season and how it makes the spring that much easier for our bears. We’ll move onto spring behavior, including the science of bear-marking, the forecast of cub production, survival of known bears and abundance, and conclude with awareness of mountain lion and wolves in the Sea to Sky. We’ll also touch on the impacts of rising and dropping water levels on floodplain habitat, which is the most significant damage seen from localized climate extremes.
This year’s talks will also feature a special overview of Slumber, a local bear who has survived three decades in Whistler.
Registration opens on Friday, May 29 at 10 a.m. Email [email protected] to sign up. Please let us know if you’d like to attend on June 16 OR June 23.
This program is made possible by support from the Friends of Whistler Public Library!
