About this Event

This workshop is a beautiful opportunity to learn about the traditional Mexican practice of using a rebozo during labor and postpartum. Join us at beautiful Yarrow, BC from 10am-4pm on Saturday August 22nd for a hands-on experience where you'll discover the benefits and techniques of this ancient practice. This workshop will also cover how to facilitate a "closing ceremony" after the birth and the continued use of the rebozo during postpartum. Treat yourself with a day overlooking the Fraser Valley and being in close connection to the plants.

Who is this workshop for? Anyone interested in birth or planning to give birth. Doulas are especially welcome.

Course overview:

Throughout the day we’ll talk about and practice the uses of the rebozo in various stages:

● History and context of the use of the rebozo.

● Rebozo during pregnancy: massage ,comfort, belly support, etc.

● Rebozo during birth: positions for pushing, comfort measures, helping baby descend and turn, etc.

● Rebozo in the postpartum: post birth loving ritual that includes a herb bath, massage, and closure binding with rebozos.

We will practice everything so participants can get a real experience about all of the techniques we discuss. It will be a big day with a lot of hands on interaction and a lot of moving emotions.

About your facilitator Ximena Lopez

"I’m a mom, childbirth educator, doula child, psychologist, herb passionate mani-gen, and the list goes on. Most importantly I’m convinced that natural loving approaches to health change lives. Since graduating from child psychology in Monterrey, Mexico I knew that a child’s wellbeing began way before birth. So I decided to study the masters in childbirth education getting certified through Lamaze International and DONA International. Then after having my first daughter I received a herb bath and closure from my midwife and I fell in love with herbs and the ritual. So, then I studied it with two traditional midwives from the Mayan region Emilia and Sabrina. Following the plant path, now in BC I just finished a 2 year apprenticeship on medicinal herbalism with Wild Folk Herb Farm. Every day I continue to learn and evolve, forever committed to connecting body and soul, heaven and earth, nature and humans."
