🔊In this public lecture, Liz Jackson will discuss the importance of developing a global approach to educational philosophy and theory.
Today, global higher education and academia are facing the decline of a traditionally Western-oriented world order. For some, this shift is a welcome development; for others, it is a source of uncertainty. In this context, the lecture argues for a global approach that neither outright rejects nor defensively protects the role of Western thought in educational philosophy and theory.
The lecture begins by addressing the concept of so-called Western global exceptionalism in philosophy, questioning whether philosophy as an activity and tradition is inherently "Western" or fundamentally global. It then explores philosophy as a global endeavor and highlights the importance of reflecting on place, locale, and positionality in educational research.
Rather than valuing global perspectives merely for the sake of diversity or viewing the legacy of Western global influence in education as essential for achieving equality, justice, peace, and sustainability the lecture proposes a "middle way." It critically examines ongoing inequalities in global higher education and knowledge production, prompting students and academics to consider how they can help cultivate a more equitable environment for mutual understanding and coexistence in the future.

დღეს, როდესაც მსოფლიოში განათლებასა და აკადემიაში დასავლეთზე ორიენტირებული გლობალური წესრიგის ცვლილების პროცესს ვაკვირდებით, ეს ზოგისთვის პოზიტიური მოვლენაა, ზოგისთვის კი გაურკვევლობისა და შფოთვის მიზეზი. ამ კონტექსტში, ლექცია წარმოაჩენს გლობალური მიდგომის მნიშვნელობას, რომელიც არც უარყოფს და არც იცავს დასავლური აზროვნების როლს განათლების ფილოსოფიასა და თეორიაში.
ლექცია განიხილავს ე.წ. დასავლური გლობალური გამორჩეულობის საკითხს ფილოსოფიაში და სვამს კითხვას, არის თუ არა ფილოსოფია, როგორც საქმიანობა და ტრადიცია, არსებითად „დასავლური“ თუ, პირიქით, გლობალური. ასევე ყურადღება გამახვილდება ფილოსოფიაზე, როგორც გლობალურ საქმიანობაზე, და საგანმანათლებლო კვლევებში ადგილის, ლოკალურობისა და პოზიციონალურობის გააზრების მნიშვნელობაზე.
ლექცია ხაზს უსვამს, რომ გლობალური ხედვები მხოლოდ მრავალფეროვნების მიზნით არ არის მნიშვნელოვანი და არც დასავლური გლობალური გავლენის მემკვიდრეობა უნდა მივიჩნიოთ აუცილებელ პირობად თანასწორობის, სამართლიანობის, მშვიდობისა და მდგრადობის მისაღწევად. ამის ნაცვლად, ის გვთავაზობს „შუა გზას“, რომელიც კრიტიკულად განიხილავს გლობალურ უმაღლეს განათლებასა და ცოდნის წარმოებაში არსებულ უთანასწორობებს და გვაფიქრებს იმაზე, თუ როგორ შეუძლიათ სტუდენტებსა და აკადემიურ საზოგადოებას ხელი შეუწყონ უფრო თანასწორი, ურთიერთგაგებასა და თანაცხოვრებაზე დაფუძნებული მომავლის შექმნას.
