About this Event

Overcome Fear of Failure
Guided Group Hypnosis in Downtown Toronto (to join virtually, please refer to the FAQ)

A guided group hypnosis session designed to help you tolerate uncertainty, take meaningful action, and stop treating every possible setback as a verdict on your worth.

You may know what you want to do and still find yourself unable to begin.

You delay applying, launching, submitting, speaking, changing direction, or putting your work in front of other people. You tell yourself that you need more preparation, more certainty, better timing, or greater confidence.

Sometimes that preparation is useful.

Sometimes it is a way of avoiding the moment when your effort becomes visible and the outcome can no longer be controlled.

Fear of failure is not always fear of the practical consequence itself. It is often fear of embarrassment, disappointment, criticism, regret, or the possibility that an unsuccessful result will confirm your worst beliefs about yourself.

This session uses guided hypnosis to help you approach risk more proportionately and act without requiring a guarantee that everything will work.

This session may be especially helpful if you:

  • Avoid opportunities unless success feels highly likely
  • Delay starting because you might not perform well
  • Abandon ideas before anyone else can evaluate them
  • Overprepare in an attempt to eliminate every possibility of error
  • Interpret setbacks as evidence that you lack ability
  • Feel ashamed when your effort does not produce the result you wanted
  • Remain in familiar situations because change could expose you to disappointment
  • Procrastinate on applications, projects, presentations, or difficult conversations
  • Compare your unfinished work with other people’s visible successes
  • Believe that trying and failing would feel worse than never trying
  • Struggle to recover emotionally after criticism, rejection, or disappointment
  • Want to become more willing to act under uncertainty

You may attend with a particular decision, opportunity, or project in mind, or simply work on becoming less governed by the need to avoid failure.

What to Expect

The session begins with a brief introduction to the evening’s theme. Participants may suggest situations they would like addressed, such as career changes, entrepreneurship, public speaking, creative work, academic pressure, dating, competition, leadership, applications, or difficult personal goals.

You will then be guided through a shared hypnosis experience centred on ideas such as:

  • An unsuccessful outcome does not make you an unsuccessful person.
  • You can care about the result without making your worth depend on it.
  • You do not need certainty before taking a reasonable risk.
  • Rejection is information, not humiliation.
  • A mistake can reveal what needs to change without defining your ability.
  • You are allowed to be a beginner at something that matters to you.
  • Other people are generally thinking about your setbacks less than you imagine.
  • Avoiding every risk also prevents many forms of progress.
  • Courage does not require the absence of fear.
  • You can survive disappointment and respond intelligently to what happens next.
  • Your responsibility is to make a thoughtful effort—not to control every outcome.
  • You can judge yourself by the quality of your decision and effort, not only by the result.

Depending on the needs of the group, the session may also address perfectionism, procrastination, fear of judgment, imposter syndrome, overpreparation, indecision, shame, or difficulty returning to a goal after a setback.

The exact content varies slightly from one session to another, while the central purpose remains the same: helping you act before success is guaranteed.

A More Useful Understanding of Failure

Not every unsuccessful outcome is valuable.

Some setbacks are painful, expensive, inconvenient, or disappointing. Good judgment still matters.

The goal is not to romanticize failure. It is to stop treating the mere possibility of failure as a reason to avoid every meaningful challenge.

A reasonable risk considers:

  • What may be gained
  • What may be lost
  • How likely each outcome is
  • Whether the consequences are recoverable
  • What can be learned
  • What support or preparation is appropriate
  • Whether inaction carries its own cost

Fear becomes disproportionate when it treats every uncertain outcome as catastrophic and every mistake as permanent.

This session is designed to help you preserve judgment while becoming more willing to proceed when the risk is acceptable.

Failure Is an Outcome, Not an Identity

A project can fail. An application can be rejected. A presentation can go poorly. A decision can produce an outcome you did not want.

None of these events can summarize you as a person.

The mind often turns a specific outcome into a global conclusion:

“I failed at this” becomes “I am a failure.”

“That person rejected me” becomes “I am undesirable.”

“This idea did not work” becomes “I have poor judgment.”

This session helps reinforce a more accurate distinction between what happened and who you are.

You can be disappointed without condemning yourself. You can revise your approach without losing self-respect. You can learn without turning the lesson into punishment.

Who Can Attend?

No previous experience with hypnosis is required. You may participate quietly, and you will not be required to disclose your goals, setbacks, or personal circumstances to the group.

You may attend with a specific action in mind, but you will not be pressured to make a major decision or take an inappropriate risk. The purpose is to help you think and respond more proportionately—not to override your judgment.

Each session stands on its own. You are welcome to attend once or return regularly to reinforce the ideas and apply them to different areas of your life.

This is an educational and experiential group hypnosis session. It is not individualized career, financial, legal, medical, or psychological advice.
