A guided group hypnosis session to help you quiet bedtime overthinking, release the pressure to sleep and develop a calmer nighttime routine
About this Event

How to Sleep Better
Guided Group Hypnosis in Downtown Toronto (to join virtually, please refer to the FAQ)

A guided group hypnosis session designed to help you release the day, quiet bedtime overthinking, and develop a calmer relationship with sleep.

You may feel exhausted throughout the day, only to become mentally alert as soon as your head touches the pillow.

You replay conversations. You plan tomorrow. You monitor the time. You calculate how many hours of sleep remain. The harder you try to make yourself sleep, the more awake and frustrated you become.

This session is designed to help interrupt that pattern.

Using guided hypnosis, you will practise allowing the day to end, setting aside thoughts that do not need to be resolved at night, and treating bedtime as a cue for rest rather than further mental activity.

This session may be especially helpful if you:

  • Have difficulty switching off at the end of the day
  • Replay conversations, decisions, or unfinished tasks in bed
  • Worry about whether you will fall asleep
  • Become frustrated when sleep does not happen immediately
  • Wake during the night and struggle to settle again
  • Feel physically tired but mentally alert
  • Have begun associating your bed with effort, worry, or wakefulness
  • Want to approach sleep with less pressure and more trust

What to Expect

The session begins with a brief introduction to the evening’s theme. Participants may suggest sleep-related patterns they would like addressed, such as racing thoughts, work stress, nighttime worry, waking too early, difficulty returning to sleep, or anxiety about the consequences of a poor night.

You will then be guided through a shared hypnosis experience centred on ideas such as:

  • The day does not need to be completely resolved before you can rest.
  • A thought can be postponed without being ignored.
  • Your bed is a place for rest, not planning, analysis, or self-evaluation.
  • You do not have to force sleep to allow it to happen.
  • Being awake for a period of time is uncomfortable, but it is not an emergency.
  • You can release the pressure to achieve a perfect night’s sleep.
  • Your body already knows how to move toward rest when you stop interfering with the process.
  • Tomorrow’s problems can be handled more effectively tomorrow.

Depending on the needs of the group, the session may also address emotional carryover from the day, sleep-related frustration, clock-watching, perfectionism about sleep, or the habit of using bedtime as uninterrupted thinking time.

The exact content varies slightly from one session to another, while the central purpose remains the same: helping your mind recognize that nighttime is no longer a time for effort.

A Different Approach to Sleep

Sleep is unusual because it cannot be accomplished directly through greater effort.

You can prepare for it. You can create the right conditions. You can allow it. But the attempt to force yourself to sleep often creates the alertness that keeps sleep away.

Hypnosis provides an opportunity to practise the opposite response: less monitoring, less problem-solving, and greater permission to let the experience unfold naturally.

The hypnosis session itself is not the same as sleep. You will generally remain aware of the facilitator’s voice and your surroundings. However, many people experience the process as deeply calming and find it useful for practising the transition from mental activity into rest.

Who Can Attend?

No previous experience with hypnosis is required. You may participate quietly, and you will not be required to discuss your sleep difficulties with the group.

Each session stands on its own. You are welcome to attend once or return regularly to reinforce the ideas and practise responding differently to nighttime wakefulness.

This session is intended to support healthier attitudes and mental habits around sleep. Persistent sleep problems can also have medical, Medic*tion-related, environmental, or behavioural causes. Hypnosis should complement—not replace—appropriate medical assessment when one is needed.
