New Monsoon’s exhilarating blend of acoustic and electric instrumentation shines in an irresistible blend of sophisticated song craft, inventive musical exploration and down-home rock-n-roll. They have a collective power that comes off as a real unified force on stage. It’s not just a band, you know? It’s something transcendental.” - Michael Shrieve (original drummer, Santana)If you know, you know. Such is the case when it comes to the Bay Area jamband phenomenon known as New Monsoon. People with excellent taste in music have held this band in the highest regard for decades now and fortunately for all of us, they’re still going strong. With an eclectic blend of world inspired rhythms, collaborative songwriting, deep grooves and extensive jams, New Monsoon incorporates a prismatic spectrum of influences into their own brand of rock 'n roll.
Celebrating over 25 years of making music, many would assert that New Monsoon is better than ever. They have never rested on their laurels after performing at top venues and festivals including Red Rocks, Bonnaroo, and Austin City Limits. The band has an extensive catalog of studio recordings most notably "The Sound" produced by Michael Shrieve (Santana)/Paul Kimble (Grant Lee Buffalo) and "V" produced by platinum award winning producer John Cutler (Grateful Dead).
New Monsoon sets itself apart with an interwoven blend of electric and acoustic guitar from Jeff Miller and Bo Carper. Carper also straps on the electric banjo which adds a soaring, percussive element to catapult any jam into the stratosphere. Keyboardist Phil Ferlino enhances this jam symphony to the nth degree with his effervescent flights and bubbling cauldron of brilliant melodic ideas. He’s also a beautiful singer, injecting a level of sincerity which gives the whole package heightened gravity. These three founding members exemplify a chemistry that has endeared countless fans over the decades.
Relatively new compared to the rest, the rhythm section has injected fresh energy into the band’s signature sound. Dale Fanning is a dazzling drummer who brings African and jazz influences to the mix. He’s also a relentless rocker who has a way of finding an extra gear to add the ultimate thunderous exclamation exactly when needed. They’ve got the low end on lockdown with Murph Murphy (Stu Allen & Mars Hotel, Band Beyond Description) on bass. This Crazy Horse fan favorite is a cerebral groove master who elevates every project he’s involved with. Don’t miss one of the hottest shows of the year!
