dadweed is an acoustic trio based out of Portland. Reimagining pickin' and thumpin' by blending elements of jazz/folk/pop/R&B within a traditional bluegrass lens, their sets explore a wide variety of styles and dynamics. Showcasing both covers and originals, a focus on improvisation threads the needle through their storytelling. Leaning heavily into three-part vocal harmonies and virtuosic instrumentation, dadweed carves out its own niche among the young crop of bluegrass artists intent on pushing the genre in fresh directions. Reflective of their funky origins in Portland, they bring a sense of humor into their performances which has a unique way of sparking their audiences.
The pride of the Gold Country, Caltucky is a formidable force within the Nor Cal jamgrass scene and beyond. We’ve seen several lineup changes over the past couple years and somehow the band manages to level up every time. Bassist Tyler Miles has been a notable addition with his relentless energy and musical prowess. Fiddle virtuoso Elijah McCullough is the band’s newest ace. He electrifies the mix with roots ranging from bluegrass and old time to Turkish gypsy and other world music influences. Previously focused on mandolin, Marty Varner has seized the role as the flatpicking freak. He’s got the speed, he’s got the swagger, he’s got the vision. Anchoring the band as always, banjoist Kyle Kunert assures that Caltucky never skips a beat. These cats are bona fide string assassins and positive vibe ambassadors.
