NEW: Are We Alone? Searching for Life Beyond Earth
About this Event
On July 27th, we present : "Are We Alone? Searching for Life Beyond Earth" by Prof. Robin Metcalfe, PhD.
Could life exist far beyond Earth—hidden beneath frozen oceans orbiting Jupiter?
In this fascinating lecture, Robin Metcalfe explores one of humanity’s oldest and biggest questions: Are we alone in the universe?
Using NASA’s Europa Clipper mission as our guide, we’ll journey to Jupiter’s icy moons - worlds that may contain vast oceans beneath their frozen crusts. Once thought impossible places for life, these distant moons are now among the most exciting targets in modern space exploration.
Why do scientists believe these hidden oceans might be habitable? How do we search for life without ever touching the water itself? And what would discovering life beyond Earth mean for humanity?
Expect an accessible and awe-inspiring evening of astronomy, exploration, and the science behind the search for life in the cosmos.
💡 About the gifted Professor Renée Hložek
Robin Metcalfe is a professor at York University who has taught physics and space-themed courses for over 25 years.
Her PhD research focused on extragalactic astronomy, and her current interests center on the search for life beyond Earth and what such a discovery would mean for humanity. Through teaching and outreach, she shares her passion for astronomy and the perspective the night sky offers on our place in the Universe.
