Step back into the past! Experience the 19th century tradition of scientific naturalists observing nature in the field and drawing what we see and hear. Birds and native plants will be our focus because where one finds native plants there will be birds and butterflies.
You'll learn the basics of drawing birds, butterflies and plants. Your instructor will provide a variety of media such as colored pencils, charcoal, graphite and pastels. You will only need to bring a a sketchbook or journal with ringed or bound pages of any size and a lawn chair. (CGS also has some plastic outdoor chairs and a few extra journals.)
Adopting a slower approach may offer our minds and bodies that are being bombarded by images and sounds all the live long day some health benefits.

INSTRUCTOR: Sheila Fagan has successfully taught art for more than forty years to people of all ages and her passion for teaching burns brighter than ever. Her expertise in art resides in the use of a variety of media: graphite, pastels, charcoal and colored pencil. Birding is also a passion. She delights in identifying these lovely creatures of the air by both sight and sound. Sheila has discovered the joy of native plants and watching the wide variety of pollinators that these plants bring to her yard. Nature journaling combines all of her passions so is it any wonder that she loves to teach others how to capture these awe-inspiring moments in nature on the pages of their own journals?
