About this Event

Calling parents, carers, grandparents, aunties, uncles and, of course, young ones! If you want to spend more quality time outdoors as a family, learning about and enjoying the natural world together, we have some games, practices and skills to inspire and encourage you.

The Nature Connection for Families holiday program taps into timeless and universal human passions for investigating mysteries, hiding, searching, sneaking, chasing, collecting, creating and inventing. Bouyed by fun, curiosity and creativity, we build ecological awareness and an ethic of caring for nature.

Day 2: Reading the Book of Nature is about getting to know the other animals that live alongside us on the Coffs Coast. We will develop deeper ecological awareness by practicing the key naturalist skills of observation and systems thinking. We will:

  • Play games that challenge us to pay attention with all our senses
  • Venture out on a wildlife tracking walk
  • Investigate an ecological mystery
  • Eavesdrop on the language of birds and try our hand at field recording
  • Practice mapping the world around us with ecological awareness
  • And finish up with a crepuscular / nocturnal spotlighting walk!

This program is designed for families with children aged 8 to 14. Younger siblings are welcome to come along, but will need close supervision and guidance to ensure appropriate behaviour.
