Nature Connection for Families, Day 3: Belonging to the Earth (age 8+)
About this Event
Calling parents, carers, grandparents, aunties, uncles and, of course, young ones! If you want to spend more quality time outdoors as a family, learning about and enjoying the natural world together, we have some games, practices and skills to inspire and encourage you.
The Nature Connection for Families holiday program taps into timeless and universal human passions for investigating mysteries, hiding, searching, sneaking, chasing, collecting, creating and inventing. Bouyed by fun, curiosity and creativity, we build ecological awareness and an ethic of caring for nature.
Day 3: Belonging to the Earth is about thriving in nature with the help of plant allies. the land provides everything we need, if only we know where to look! We will:
- Make a debris shelter
- Forage the three F's - food, fibre and fire
- Make a cordage bracelet from natural fibres
- Try traditional methods and tools to make fire
- And finish up with a fireside story circle!
This program is designed for families with children aged 8 to 14. Younger siblings are welcome to come along, but will need close supervision and guidance to ensure appropriate behaviour.
