Explore the rich and interesting history of Main Street this summer with local historian Christine Hagemoen.

Today, Main Street is geographically in the centre of the city, but in its early years this part of Main (aka Mid Main) was just outside the city limits, Vancouver’s original streetcar exurb. Historically, Main Street and its environs were under the jurisdiction of several different governing bodies. Consequently, a lack of formal planning in the area allowed for local improvisation. The result is the funky, vibrant, and walkable destination shopping neighbourhood we see today.

Over a series of three separate history walks, covering Main Street from Broadway to 28th Avenue, you’ll learn about the evolution of the neighbourhood, hear some intriguing stories of past residents, and discover the variety of businesses and eateries that once called this section of Main Street home.

Walk #3: 14th Avenue to Broadway

Winding down Watson Street - On this tour, we'll explore Mount Pleasant winding our way down Watson and Main Streets from 14th Avenue to Broadway.

Tour Date: Saturday, July 25, 2026
Time: 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM. Tours start promptly at 10 am please arrive a few minutes early for check in
Start Location: 14th & Main Plaza
Tour Length: Approximately 1 hour
Weather: Tours take place rain or shine - please bring rain gear if rain is in the forecast
Age Recommendation: Suitable for ages 14 and up (some mature content)

About the Series: This event is Walk 3 of a 3-part series taking place on Saturday mornings. Each tour explores a different section of Main Street between Broadway and 28th Avenue. Attend one, two, or all three to experience a deeper understanding of this historic and ever-changing neighbourhood.
