About this Event

The loss of biodiversity is one of the most crucial issues the planet is facing. During Earth Month, we invite you to explore options of taking action that counts! Join us for an exploration of the green spaces around Park Circus to uncover the range of biodiversity in Glasgow’s urban landscape. Experienced countryside ranger Emma Sandhu will lead a tour of exploration for an introduction to the diverse ecology in urban spaces, from wild species to cultivated varieties, and how they interact with their ecosystems we inhabit.

Using the app iNaturalist, participants are invited to gather data which can be used directly by researchers through scientific data repositories like the Global Biodiversity Information Facility. Every observation can contribute to biodiversity science, from the rarest butterfly to the most common backyard W**d!

The workshop is part of Earth Month 2026, a collaborative initiative between Goethe-Institut Glasgow, Institut Français d'Écosse, and Alliance Française Glasgow, aimed at fostering cultural exchange and climate action through the lens of artistic and cultural practice. This programme unites France, Germany, and Scotland in a dynamic, multidisciplinary dialogue around sustainability, with a particular focus on the role of oceans and rewilding.

We are starting at 3 Park Circus for an introduction to the topic and the app. The group will then explore the parks surrounding the area, before gathering at the venue to share experiences over a cup of tea/coffee.

Using the app is not a requirement for participation, but if you are interested in using it, please feel free to download it here prior to the event:

This is a family-friendly event, and all audiences are welcome.

Please make sure you have suitable shoes and rainproof clothing for walking outside in the park.
