About this Event
Batik-Style Alcohol Ink Workshop — Create a Vivid Work of Art!
Discover the magic of batik-inspired alcohol ink painting in this guided, three-hour creative workshop at Lacey Makerspace! You’ll learn how to use vibrant alcohol inks combined with a wax-resist technique to create striking, colorful artwork that radiates with life.
Using synthetic paper as your canvas, you’ll begin by applying a special resist medium to define your image — much like traditional batik fabric art. Then, you’ll layer brilliant alcohol inks around those preserved lines, watching as color flows, blends, and blooms across the surface. When the resist is removed, your design will reveal crisp white highlights and dynamic contrast, transforming your piece into a luminous masterpiece.
Each participant can choose to complete one large 9x12 painting, guided step-by-step through the process. A variety of images and stencils will be available — from bold florals, playful cartoon characters, to vivid wildlife designs — so every artist can find an image that speaks to them. Feel free to bring your own art printed on paper, just keep it simple, and we will help you turn it into a one of a kind piece of art.
No experience is necessary! This workshop is perfect for anyone curious about alcohol inks or looking to express creativity in a fun, relaxed environment. Come experiment, learn new techniques, and leave with a finished artwork you’ll be proud to display.
Instructor Bio: K
I am a lifelong art collector of skills rather than things. My main medium is ceramics, but I have a long-standing habit of learning whatever creative practice wanders into my path. Along the way I have learned bark weaving in Africa, beading in Alaska, sewing reindeer hide from a Sámi teacher, wet felting in Sweden, and knitting from a guy in Antarctica, because of course I did.
When I am not collecting skills abroad, I am teaching myself how to crochet, weave baskets, paint, weld, build furniture, sew clothing, embroider by hand and machine, and turn recycled materials, bones, and fur into jewelry. I am not an expert at everything, and I am perfectly okay with that. I make art because it keeps me sane, curious, and entertained, and sometimes it even turns out pretty good.
This class is less about perfection and more about exploration, curiosity, and enjoying the happy accidents along the way. Ink included.
