The End of Everything

Phillip Tennent makes his living at the tideline, collecting artefacts that wash up from the Channel. It's been years since the crisis changed everything, but its exact nature remains obscure. Government barely functions, the seas are full of new creatures, Europe has been mislaid. It feels like the end. Now Phillip has fished out of the water an object he can't keep. A creature that keeps changing. An artefact he must take inland, before it destroys everything he thinks he knows.

M. John Harrison

Writers as diverse as Olivia Laing, Robert MacFarlane, Ursula Le Guin and Neil Gaiman have all identified M John Harrison as one of most talented and original of his generation of British writers. Coming up at an oblique angle to his contemporaries, he wrote some of the most famous science fiction and fantasy novels of the 1970s and 80s in the Viriconium sequence and The Centauri Device. His Empty Space trilogy, which marked a return to science fiction, won both the Arthur C Clarke and the James Tiptree Jnr awards.

Harrison won the 2020 Goldsmith's Prize with The Sunken Land Begins to Rise Again, which was also chosen as a New Statesman Book of the Year. His most recent book — Wish I Was Here: An Anti-Memoir — was published by Serpent's Tail in 2023 and chosen as a TLS Book of the Year.

Ben Pester

Ben Pester is a writer of long and short form fiction. His debut story collection Am I in the Right Place? was published in 2021, and was long listed for the 2022 Edge Hill Prize. His fiction and work has appeared in Granta, The London Magazine, TANK, Hotel, Five Dials and elsewhere. His debut novel The Expansion Project was shortlisted for the Nero Prize for Debut Fiction and the Goldsmiths Prize.
