Beginner Class, Week 18
Blacknose Dace. The Blacknose Dace is a streamer pattern that imitates its namesake—a small, slender baitfish commonly found in North American streams. Its distinct black, white, and brown coloration closely matches the natural appearance of the dace, making it a reliable choice for targeting trout that feed on minnows. The fly’s realistic profile and subtle flash provoke aggressive strikes, especially in clear water where fish are keyed in on specific forage. It should be fished with a steady retrieve or swung through current seams, particularly near undercut banks, rocks, or structure where baitfish often gather.
