Beginner Class, Week 15
Zonker. The Zonker is a streamer fly pattern that imitates small baitfish, sculpins, or leeches—key prey for large, predatory fish. Its rabbit strip tail and body create lifelike, undulating movement that mimics the swimming action of real aquatic creatures. The fly’s natural motion and flash trigger aggressive strikes, especially from trout, bass, and even pike in deeper or slower waters. It should be fished with a strip-and-pause retrieve or swung across current seams to entice reaction bites.
