Beginner Class, Week 17
Slumpbuster. The Slumpbuster is a streamer pattern that imitates baitfish, leeches, or sculpins—high-protein prey that attract aggressive strikes from large trout and other predators. Its dense conehead, flashy underbody, and soft, flowing zonker strip give it a realistic profile and erratic swimming action. This fly draws attention by pushing water and reflecting light, making it especially effective in deeper pools, off-color water, or low-light conditions. It should be fished with a strip-and-pause retrieve or swung through current, targeting structure and drop-offs where big fish lie in wait.
