About this Event
Join Dr. Katelyn Jetelina, MPH, PhD, and Dr. Dora Anne Mills, MD, MPH, each of whom is known for translating complex, evolving science into clear, actionable insights. They will help us understand changes in federal vaccine guidelines and implications for our nation’s public health.
Dr. Katelyn Jetelina, MPH, PhD, is a prominent American epidemiologist, data scientist and leading scientific communicator best known as the founder and author of "Your Local Epidemiologist" (YLE), a widely read public health newsletter on Substack that demystifies health science for the general public. She holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) and a PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. YLE began as a local email during COVID-19 and quickly grew into a global resource reaching millions. Before her rise as a public health communicator, she spent 10 years working with vulnerable populations, focusing on research in violence, human trafficking and gun violence, which produced over 70 peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Jetelina is a former senior advisor to the White House and the US CDC. She has been named one of the TIME100 Most Influential People in Health and is an adjunct professor at the Yale School of Public Health. Based in San Diego, she continues to focus on bridging the gap between scientific evidence and public understanding.
Dr. Dora Anne Mills, MD, MPH, is a distinguished physician and public health leader who has served as a foundational figure in Northern New England’s health infrastructure for over three decades. Currently the Chief Health Improvement Officer at MaineHealth, she is widely recognized for her ability to integrate clinical medicine with population health strategies. Prior to her current role, she spent 15 years as Maine’s State Health Officer and Director of the Maine CDC, where she led the state through the 2009 H1N1 pandemic and spearheaded major initiatives to reduce tobacco use and childhood obesity. Dr. Mills’ expertise is built upon a robust academic background: a BA from Bowdoin College, MD from University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine, pediatric residency at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and an MPH from Harvard. Her work has been honored with numerous accolades, including the American Medical Association's Nathan Davis Award for outstanding government service.
