Lift the Siege on Cuba: The Inaugural National Conference of the Cuba Friendship Society
August 13th 2026 is the birth centenary of Fidel Castro. To mark this occasion and to raise awareness and gather solidarity for Cuba, which is facing a genocidal embargo and intensifying threats of military intervention from the US, the Aotearoa NZ Cuba Friendship Society is organising its inaugural national gathering/conference. This is a free public event, open to all. We are demanding that New Zealand parliament pass a bipartisan resolution condemning the genocidal siege on Cuban People.
On Friday evening, we start with art exhibitions and a short documentaries. On Saturday we have a film screening, expert presentations and panels. In the evening, we have a social night with Latin American music, dance and art display.
On Sunday morning we have the keynote address by the Cuban Ambassador to New Zealand H.E. Luis Morejon Rodrigues followed by the society's national inaugural general meeting (IGM). The event concludes at 1pm, Aug 16.
