Youth experience the magic of transformation into Chinese opera characters – or ones they make up – through mask creation. Masks bring out character’s specific personality, moral traits, and emotional state at a glance.
Also included in the ticket price: your child attends the Festival’s presentation of, Painted Faces, Flowing Sleeves: A Showcase of Chinese Opera, with a deeper understanding.
This workshop is for children 11 years old and younger.
WHY ATTEND

-Young people who like making, imagining, drawing, painting, or trying something new.
-Families looking for a creative cultural activity connected to the festival.
-Children attending Painted Faces, Flowing Sleeves who would benefit from a hands-on introduction beforehand.
-No previous art, theatre, or performance experience is required.
GOOD TO KNOW
-Materials are provided.
-Participants will create a mask inspired by Chinese Opera characters, or one they imagine themselves.
-The $20 ticket includes the participating child’s attendance at Painted Faces, Flowing Sleeves: A Showcase of Chinese Opera.
