Early bird all 3 workshops $155 by March 31, $170 after early bird
Saturday April 11
12-2pm Geometric Drills $50 adv - $55 after early
This workshop blends the artistry of shape-making with the physical intensity of nonstop drilling. We’ll move to a high-energy playlist, working hard and feeling energized as we drill isolations to build strength, precision, and endurance. From there, we’ll push those drills further by transforming them into dynamic phrases that explore symmetry, asymmetry, timing, and flow. Expect to sweat, move continuously, and challenge both your body and creativity. The class will culminate in a short choreography that integrates the drills and concepts explored, followed by a juicy stretch to restore balance after the work.
2:30-4:30pm Embodied Musicality $50 adv - $55 after early bird
This workshop is an exploration of music as a partner, guide, and source of inspiration. Together, we’ll dive into the relationship between sound and movement, discovering how dance can become a visible expression of what we hear and feel. Through a blend of conceptual discussion, guided improvisations, and practical exercises, you’ll learn simple yet powerful ways to tune into rhythm, phrasing, texture, and instrumentation. We’ll play with listening in new ways, responding with clarity and creativity, and allowing musical layers to inform the quality, timing, and intention of your movement. By the end, you’ll walk away with fresh tools to deepen your musical interpretation—plus a take-home handout outlining the key concepts explored in class.
Sunday April 12
12-3pm Contemporary fusion belly dance choreography $75 adv, $80 after early bird
This workshop centers on a new choreography that blends the sharp, isolated movements of belly dance with the fluidity and expressiveness of contemporary dance. We’ll begin with a warm-up focused on breath-initiated movement and strength-building techniques to generate heat and circulation. Throughout class, dancers will explore concepts designed to help them access their unique artistic individuality within the choreography. Expect moments of improvisation, guided exploration, and opportunities to dive into expression, musical interpretation, and textural nuance. Dance shoes are recommended but not required.
Hafla Showcase Sunday April 12, doors open 6pm, show at 6:30pm. Ticket and more information coming soon!
