About This Event:
This event is a ritual of connection, Cacao, guided movement, and free-form dance medicine in a downtempo-esque container. The pace is slower...like a steady burning flame, inviting us to drop deeper into presence with every delicious movement. Note: The music is not strictly downtempo... it is downtempo-esque. Inspired by a slower pace but does still follow a journey. BPM typically does not go above 95.

About the Cacao:
Cacao is a delicious, heart-opening medicine with indigenous roots all over the world. Drinking cacao in ceremony where one is invited to connect with the spirit of cacao and invite it into the heart space can bring profound healing experiences, especially when combined with movement such as dance. Cacao is just one more way to infuse Love into your dance!
I am trying a new cacao for this space and I can personally attest that it is delicious. This new cacao comes from Peru, called Cacao Chuncho.
> Cacao Chuncho is a native (heirloom) strain of cacao from the wild jungles of Peru. It is the core variety of cacao KAKAO has been sourcing since 2017 and is what the community is used to receiving. Chuncho, directly translating to "jungle cacao," is extremely special, rare and cherished by the natives of the land in Peru. It's impossible to replicate its floral, unique taste and aroma. The "farms" are indeed on inherited family land, which are very challenging to get to. Up until recently there were no roads to even access this wild type of cacao. We believe the Chuncho holds a specific communication from Mother Earth that is connected to sacred portals and grids in Peru. This cacao acts as the rainbow bridge to re-commune with humanity's original soul blueprint.
> Cacao Chuncho is known to be naturally higher in cocoa butter, meaning it is extra rich in the beneficial compounds that make cacao known for healing, heart opening, physical vitality and stem cell regeneration. With higher cocoa butter content, it also naturally requires less sweetener to taste sweet and creamy. Some describe the taste of this cacao to be light, somewhat floral with a bit of tang, and deliciously creamy.

About the Artists:
Buckminster W. Q. Zaphod Barrett was taken by his parents to conscious dance as a baby. He was immersed in the Santa Cruz dance scene in 2014 and influenced by contact improv, fusion, and martial arts. He has DJ’d ecstatic dances around the California Coast since 2017, fueled by the music he discovered in college radio. Fast forward to 2021, where he’s now the curator of Synergy ecstatic dance in Sebastopol, CA.
Together with the dancers, he spontaneously curates an ecstatic wave unique to that moment's dancefloor. The boundaries of genre give way to a multi-faceted soundscape, with a healthy blend of World House, down-tempo Bass music, polyrhythms, and melodies aplenty– with a heartfelt story that weaves it all together. The style can only be described as “tastefully eclectic,” with a focus on downtempo, spaciousness, dynamism, and “music with feeling.”
All in all, it boils down to this prayer inherent in the rhythms: May we allow these sounds, familiar and fresh, to dissolve the monkey mind and re-mind the body of its own voice. Listento Zaphod: Soundcloud.com/Zaphodance
Bijan: Bijan is a multi-instrumentalist specializing in the Armenian duduk flute and classical guitar. His music blends ancient folk melodies with devotional atmospheres, holding sacred space while carrying a modern sensibility. His work bridges ancestral sounds with contemporary expression.
Chelsea Amber: Bio: Chelsea is a community co-creator, student, teacher, and spiritual seeker. She finds her own divine remembrance and connection through ceremony, nature, silence, and movement. She has found that within music and dance she is able to stabilize her own consistent dialogue and trust in life. Chelsea seeks containers of safety and skilled holding to explore the depths of her own body as a vessel for liberation and connection - and she aims to create these spaces for others. In addition to being an Ecstatic Dance DJ, Chelsea is a Dancing Freedom Facilitator, yoga teacher, and energy and body worker.
