Island Magic: African & Caribbean Folklore Traditions and Mermaids
with Award-Winning Author Lisa Stringfellow
In honor of Juneteenth and Caribbean Heritage Month, guest author Lisa Stringfellow will share the inspiration behind her acclaimed debut middle grade novel, A Comb of Wishes. Rooted in Caribbean culture, folklore, and the magic of mermaid tales, the novel follows young Kela, who discovers a mysterious mermaid’s comb and makes an impossible wish.
Perfect for younger audiences and families, the program will also feature a special read-aloud of The Mermaid Princesses by Maya Cameron-Gordon, followed by a fun hands-on activity inspired by the themes of wonder, storytelling, and creativity.
Lisa Stringfellow is also the author of middle grade novel Kingdom of Dust.
