Join us in commemorating Juneteenth with an evening of free programming at the Washington State History Museum. This program will feature remarks and a performance by Eva Abram of Rainwater Storytelling. Singer and musician Jason Turner, musician Naby Camara from Guinea, African dancer and drummer Baba Kauna Mujamal, and Kamau Ron Taplin will be performing.
About Eva Abram
Eva Abram is a storyteller, keynote speaker and award-winning actress. Her storytelling grew out of an appreciation for the valuable lessons folktales and history offers. Her engaging traditional tales and literary stories are told with masterful use of gesture and physical expression. She has delighted audiences from elementary age to adult, leaving them with a laugh, a gem of wisdom or something to ponder. Performance venues include featured teller at regional festivals, schools, universities, business diversity programs and community organizations. She enjoys story coaching and teaching workshops.
Eva received the 2022 J.J. Reneaux Emerging Artist Award from the National Storytelling Network. As a member of the Humanities Washington speaker’s bureau she traveled around the state (for four years) speaking about American history and racism. She received rave reviews from audiences in various venues.
In solo performances, she embodies historical characters, bringing history to life. Among others, her characters include: Shirley Chisholm – 1972 Presidential Candidate; Bessie Coleman – Aviation Pioneer; and Rosa Parks – Civil Rights Activist. Eva performs in schools, universities, business diversity programs and community organizations. She has told stories locally, in cities around the country, as well as in Japan and South Africa.
