About this Event
In this group we will be examining our relationship with tech, identifying our values, connecting with others IRL, and moving from FOMO to JOMO (letting go of preoccupations with whatever is beyond the here and now and enjoying what you are doing in the present moment). This group offers a blend of education around tech use (benefits, downsides and risks), human psychology, voluntary group discussion, and engaging game-driven activites.
This NEW, in-person group is for anyone in grade 8-12 who:
- wants to reduce tech use (or wants to learn more before making any big changes)
- wants to improve thier focus/attention, clarity of mind, and sense of connection
**Please note this is a 6 week group. Attendance at all sessions is recommended and preferred (see agenda). To register, order a ticket for ANY of the weeks offered and you will be considered registered for the 6 week group.
Group Background
Inspired by the research of Jonathan Haidt in his book The Anxious Generation, which focuses on how social media and smartphones have caused mental health to plummet in teens and tweens, this group explores:
- How app developers and big tech prey on human psychology to keep us scrolling and gaming
- Info on average screen time use in youth and associated mental health impacts
- Digital dopamine hits vs. real world dopamine hits
- Our biological need for human connection in an embodied (not digital) way
- Attention fragmentation and the loss of ability to maintain sustained focus
- and more!
Space is limited so registration is required.
