About this Event

A master songwriter. A true troubadour. An intimate night of songs, stories, and soul.

The White Lilac is proud to welcome acclaimed Nashville songwriter and performer Jeff Black for an unforgettable evening in Kenosha’s tiniest listening room.

Jeff Black is one of those rare artists whose songs feel lived-in, literary, and wide open — the kind of writing that carries the dust of the road, the ache of memory, and the spark of something eternal.

Steve Morse of The Boston Globe wrote:

“Jeff Black has the troubadour quality of a Steve Goodman, the poetic dignity of Bruce Springsteen, and the outer-fringe edge of Townes Van Zandt. We kid you not.”

His songs have been recorded by an extraordinary list of artists, including Alison Krauss, Waylon Jennings, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, John Oates, Dierks Bentley, BlackHawk, Jo-El Sonnier, and more. Sam Bush has long championed Black’s work, recording several of his songs including “Same Ol’ River” and “Gold Heart Locket.” Jeff also co-wrote the title track to Bush’s Grammy-nominated album Circles Around Me.

BlackHawk’s recording of Jeff Black’s “That’s Just About Right” became a Top 10 country single, while their version of “King of the World” reached the Top 30.

His music has also appeared in film and television, including The Thing Called Love, the acclaimed PBS documentary The Appalachians, and Steel City, winner of the Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize for Best Drama.

A prolific and deeply respected artist, Jeff Black was voted one of the Top 100 Folk Artists of the last 25 years by listeners of Boston’s WUMB.

No Depression wrote:

“His words and voice hold down center stage with a craft so deeply in the artistic pocket that it obscures anything outside.”

Billboard Magazine called his work:

“Nothing short of brilliant. Top to bottom, this stuff is special. Black is an artist of substance.”

In the tradition of the great storytellers, Jeff Black’s live performances are passionate, soul-driven, and unforgettable. This is songwriting at the highest level — close enough to hear every breath, every line, every truth.

At The White Lilac, that kind of night matters.

Limited seating. All ages.

Come spend an evening with one of America’s great songwriters.
