About this Event
PYSANKY! Presented by Bozena Hrycyna of This Folk Life
Learn how to make beautiful Pysanky Easter Eggs in the traditional Ukrainian style using aniline dyes.
Pysanka (literal translation is “written egg”) is an egg inscribed with magical symbols that were traditionally inscribed on eggs for generations.
Learn about this ancient and beautiful way of ushering in spring, and the techniques necessary to transform a plain egg into an intricate colourful object of hope! Participants will be introduced to the symbols, cultural context, and lore behind this ancient craft, while also gaining the practical skills of applying wax with a stylus, dyeing, and revealing their egg design.
All materials will be provided (eggs, aniline dyes, beeswax, etc.)
Pysanka kits and individuals tools will also be available for purchase (proceeds go to non profit arts organisation Folk Camp Canada).
This class WILL sell out so please purchase workshop tickets early to avoid disappointment.
All participants require a ticket. Suitable for 10 and up. All children under 12 require a parental supervision.
