Introduction to Evidence-Based Practice

The Department of Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) presents a 4-hour workshop focused on learning the fundamentals of evidence-based practice. Using the Stanford Children's Health EBP Model, you will learn an overview of the EBP process and how to apply it to a clinical situation. Our instructors will provide you the knowledge, tools and skills needed for you to conduct an EBP initiative. The workshop involves both didactic and interactive sessions using an exemplar to guide the participants through the EBP process.

Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to:

1. Describe the difference between Research, EBP, and Quality Improvement
2. Describe the Stanford Children’s Health EBP model
3. Understand the necessary workflow to complete an EBP project
4. Identify types of research studies and their corresponding level of evidence rating
5. Describe attributes of valid and reliable research studies.
6. Complete the Quantitative and Qualitative Appraisal tool using the article provided.
7. Describe different forms of dissemination.
8. Identify the necessary components of an EBP presentation.

This continuing education (CE) course is offered through Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford by the Center for Professional Excellence and Inquiry (CPEI). Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN), Provider Number 9713.

Earning CE Credits

• To be eligible for Continuing Education (CE) credits, participants are required to attend the entire course or event and complete the course evaluation. Partial credit cannot be granted for late arrivals or early departures.

Certificate Issuance and Record Keeping

• CE certificates will be distributed within 30 days of course completion. Participants are responsible for maintaining their personal records of accrued CE documentation. Certificates must be retained for four years following the course date and are valid for a single use toward registered nurse license renewal.

• Stanford Medicine Children's Health Employees: All RNs, APPs, SMCH Leaders, CPE&I Team Members, NSG Research and EBP Council Members, RN Residents, APP Fellows, and other disciplines (Respiratory Therapists, MDs, PAs).

• The Center for Professional Excellence and Inquiry (CPE&I) accepts card payments ONLY for course fees and materials. Transfer of Funds are no longer accepted. Employees seeking reimbursement for educational expenses must obtain their manager's approval through Bright Horizon. • Join Waitlist: Please note that being on the waitlist does not guarantee enrollment to the course but it certainly increases your chances when an opening becomes available. Our waitlist is maintained on a first-come, first-served basis. Upon seat availability, you will be contacted automatically with further instructions on how to register.

CANCELLATION and REFUND

• FULL REFUND for cancellations at least 2 weeks prior to class date.
• PARTIAL REFUND for cancellations less than 2 weeks prior to class date.
• NO REFUND for cancellations less than 5 days prior to class date.
• For SCH Employees: NO SHOWS or cancellations on the day of class are considered unexcused absences. Managers will be notified. A medical note may be required in the event of illness or medical emergencies.
• Cancellation by CPEI: Schedules, venues and details are subject to change and cancellation. Registered participants will be provided with as much advance notice as possible if this should occur. If CPEI cancels class, full refund will be given.
