Resource Nurse/Frontline Leader Workshop Series: The Resource Nurse Role at SCH

DESCRIPTION
This workshop is specific to new and current SCH Resource Nurses and identifies the expectations of the Resource Nurse role at SCH, including a review of the RSN’s Standard Work. Through lecture, case studies and small group discussion, this workshop will also provide a foundational knowledge in support of the SCH RSN’s role in service recovery, conflict management, and workplace violence.
OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion, participants should be able to:
- Understand the RSN role at SCH
- Identify the Standard Work of the RSN at SCH
- Utilize the Unit-based RSN Precepting Blueprint
- Define conflict and identify sources of conflict
- Describe the impact of conflict on patients, families, staff
- Discuss situations where conflict may be constructive
- Describe specific conflict resolution strategies for use with coworkers
- Identify effective measures for handling conflict with patients and families
- Describe when and how the RSN can access the SCH ReSPCT team for escalating conflict
- Define service recovery and the RSN role at SCH
- Improve recognition, mitigation, and ability to report emerging threats.
- Identify the signs of escalating behaviors to respond in a timely and effective manner to prevent a physical escalation.
CONTINUING EDUCATION
This continuing education (CE) course is offered through Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford by the Center for Professional Excellence and Inquiry (CPEI). Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN), Provider Number 9713.
Center for Professional Excellence and Inquiry is accredited as provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC).

REGISTRATION and FEES
- T his training is exclusively offered to Stanford Medicine Children's Health employees. For employment verification, please register using your stanfordchildrens.org work email and SCH employee ID number.
- Charge nurses, RNs in Specialty Roles = FREE
- For RNs who would like to get continuing education (CE) credits = $45 (plus admin fees)
Please be advised that the Center for Professional Excellence and Inquiry (CPE&I) accepts card payments ONLY for course fees and materials. Transfer of Funds are no longer accepted. Employees seeking reimbursement for educational expenses must obtain their manager's approval through AccessHR. Employees must submit proof of completion and receipts upon completion of a course to be reimbursed. Click for Reimbursement Guidelines.

- Join Waitlist: Please note that being on the waitlist does not guarantee enrollment to the course but it certainly increases your chances when an opening becomes available. Our waitlist is maintained on a first-come, first-served basis. Upon seat availability, you will be contacted automatically with further instructions on how to register.
CANCELLATION and REFUND
- FULL REFUND for cancellations at least 2 weeks prior to course date.
- PARTIAL REFUND for cancellations less than 2 weeks prior to course date. A $35 cancellation fee will be deducted from the total amount you have paid.
- NO REFUND for cancellations less than 5 days prior to course date.
- For SCH Employees: NO SHOWS or cancellations on the day of class are considered unexcused absences. Managers will be notified. A medical note may be required in the event of illness or medical emergencies.
- Cancellation by CPEI: Schedules, venues and details are subject to change and cancellation. Registered participants will be provided with as much advance notice as possible if this should occur. If CPEI cancels class, full refund will be given.
