This class focuses on developing the practical skills needed to consistently produce balanced espresso and silky milk for café-quality drinks.
What You'll Learn
Part 1 (60 minutes): Understanding Espresso Variables
Before getting behind the machine, we'll explore the key factors that influence espresso extraction, including:
- Coffee dose and its impact on extraction
- Brew ratio and how it affects strength and flavor balance
- Brewing temperature and its influence on sweetness, acidity, and bitterness
- How these variables work together to create a balanced espresso
Through guided tasting, you'll learn how to evaluate each shot and make informed adjustments rather than relying on trial and error.

The second half of the class is entirely practical. Each participant will have the opportunity to prepare espresso while experimenting with different brewing variables.
You'll practice:
- Dialing in espresso by adjusting grind size
- Fine-tuning dose, brew ratio, and temperature
- Identifying under-extracted, balanced, and over-extracted espresso
- Steaming milk to achieve smooth, silky microfoam
- Pouring milk while understanding the fundamentals of texture and integration with espresso
By the end of the workshop, you'll have a deeper understanding of how to control espresso extraction, steam milk with confidence, and troubleshoot common issues to produce consistently excellent coffee.
