Inter-Acting Training Masterclass with Jeff Wirth
About this Event
IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a two-day workshop. When selecting tickets, you must select a time on BOTH Day 1 AND Day 2. Space is limited. If you only select one day, we will need to remove you to make room for someone who can attend both days. Thank you for understanding.
FOR ALL: From 5-6p between sessions there will be a potluck break. Attendees from both sessions are invited to mingle, hydrate, BYOS (bring your own snack), and chat with each other and Jeff Wirth and Stephanie Riggs about their upcoming immersive production.
DESCRIPTION:
Performing in today’s immersive theatre, themed entertainment, and escape-style narratives requires a unique technique that is not part of the traditional actor training of drama or improv. Neither one prepares you for what happens when an untrained stranger steps into your fiction and starts making real choices you didn't script and can't predict.
Jeff Wirth built his career developing (and wrote the books on) the technique of Inter-acting: drawing a real, un-rehearsed participant into a fictional world as a genuine co-author of the story. Across two days, you'll work directly with Wirth, learning the techniques he has spent three decades defining and naming - from entrust to reading and responding to guests’ offers without backleading them into a scene you'd already decided on, alongside sidecoaching, soft focus, and pushback, the toolkit for keeping a real participant engaged and in-story when things go off-script, which they always do.
Learn the skills companies like Cirque du Soleil, Blue Man Group, and Disney Imagineering have brought Wirth in to train their casts. By the end of the masterclass, you'll have a repeatable, nameable technique for the single hardest thing in live experiential work: making a stranger feel like the story is genuinely theirs.
