It’s a journey that can feel overwhelming, but when broken down into clear steps, it becomes manageable and exciting.

1) Before You Start Your Search

This is the preparation stage—the foundation for your journey.

• Get pre-approved for a mortgage so you know exactly what you can afford.
• Understand your budget, including not just the purchase price but also taxes, insurance, and monthly expenses.
• Define your priorities: neighborhood, school districts, commute, or home features.
• Assemble your team: a trusted real estate agent, lender, and possibly a financial advisor.

2) Finding the House

This is the search stage—the exciting part.

• Start touring homes, both online and in person.
• Compare what you see with your priorities list.
• Keep an open mind—sometimes the right house looks different from what you first imagined.
• Ask the right questions: Is the house priced fairly? How does it compare to similar homes? What repairs or updates might be needed?

3) Purchasing Your Home

This is the commitment stage—the finish line.

• Once you find the home you love, you’ll make an offer.
• Negotiations may happen, but your agent will guide you through.
• After your offer is accepted, inspections, appraisals, and final loan approval take place.
• Finally, you’ll close on the home—signing the paperwork and getting the keys.
