Holistic Gardening Workshop
About this Event
Your garden holds more than vegetables and flowers. It’s a living space shaped by a vibrant web of soil, insects, wildlife, and your thoughtful care. On Saturday, July 11, you’re invited to slow down, notice these relationships more closely, ask questions, and explore ecological gardening as an ongoing practice of curiosity and consideration for the interconnected life both above and below the soil.
Guided by Oxbow farming professional Lynnea Zuniga, this hands-on workshop will explore approachable, holistic ways to support healthy garden ecosystems. Through practical demonstrations and shared learning, you’ll leave with a fresh perspective, greater confidence, and simple tools to continue experimenting where you grow.
YOU'LL EXPERIENCE:
- Living Soil: Learn the basics of building healthy, biologically active soil that supports resilient plants and thriving gardens.
- Seed Selection: Understand how to choose seeds and crops that fit your space, goals, and growing conditions.
- Holistic Pest & Disease Approaches: Observe ecological practices that work with nature to foster plant health and biodiversity.
- Hands-On Learning: Explore practical gardening tools and techniques while bringing your questions into a shared space for discussion and discovery.
ABOUT YOUR FACILITATOR
Lynnea Zuniga (she/her), Oxbow’s Kids’ Farm Coordinator, is a German Costa Rican farmer whose love for tending plants began in her grandmother’s and great-grandmother’s gardens in her small village in southern Germany. Passing neighbors would stop to chat over the fence, and she loved how the front-yard gardens knit neighbors together. Community-scale agriculture is still her idea of paradise. At university her degree focused on hand-scale organic agriculture, which led her to learn from Maasai farmers in Tanzania and W**d pineapple patches with Benabena farmers in Papúa New Guinea. She eventually found an impactful local gardening mentor, worked as a vegetable farmer, and then recently completed a Regenerative Ag certificate. She now happily finds herself as the Kid's Farmer here at Oxbow. Her passions include seed sovereignty, soil microbiology, labor rights, and agrobiodiversity. She believes farms are the first step in our healthcare system and strives to grow nutrient-dense veggies to support vital bodies and minds. She has lived off-grid most of her adult life and in her free time enjoys rock climbing and walking very long distances.
