Hilbre, Islands as Creative laboratories
About this Event
Hilbre, Islands as Creative Laboratories
Join us for a delicious scouse followed by an illustrated talk from Dominic Wilkinson describing the process of restoring the derelict buildings of Hilbre Islands and bringing them back into use as a Centre for Art, Science & Sustainability.
Dominic will chart the initial five years of a long-term project to provide sustainable uses for Hilbre Islands' heritage structures and respect its special environmental status.
The project, which is externally funded by a grant, is full of challenges. For example, listed buildings on Hilbre Islands lack energy, waste and water infrastructure. It is a Site of Special Specific Interest, a Ramsar site, a nature reserve, and Hilbre Islands are at the constant mercy of weather and tides. Thus, this context requires creative solutions.
Dominic Wilkinson, is an award-winning architect, urban designer and Principal Lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University.
