About this Event
Group Child-Centered Play Therapy (3 CEs)
Are you seeing a lack in social skill development in your clients?
Are you struggling to see all of the children that are on your caseload?
Do you work in a school setting or private practice setting where you would love to do groups?
Group Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) is a unique and highly effective method for helping several children at once. Not only do clients still experience the variety of benefits that CCPT has to offer but they also get an opportunity to focus on their social skills.
In this training we will discuss how to screen for children who may be ready for this intervention and also how to consider which ages and diagnosis may work well together in a group.
Participants will walk away knowing how to structure the session, how to set up the environment for a group, and how to respond to children who may be resistant or have conflict with others in the group.
In the spirit of CCPT, hands-on, experiential learning will abound in this training. We will utilize video or live demonstration, lecture, discussion, and role play. Space will be limited to a small number of participants in order to provide effective coaching.
This would be an intermediate level training so at least a 2-day CCPT training in the fundamentals of CCPT is recommended. This training is for various levels of play therapists who are looking to expand their CCPT skills to group settings.
Prerequisite: This training is for licenced mental health professionals, or current students studying to become licensed in a mental health field.
It is required that participants have had a 2-day basic workshop in CCPT (or graduate class equivalent). After registration you will receive an email requesting the dates of the CCPT training (or class) you attended.
Learning Objectives:
Following this workshop, participants will be able to:
1) Identify clients who would benefit from a Group Child-Centered Play Therapy model and how to compile a group of ages and diagnosis that would work well together in a group.
2) Explain how to structure the opening statement and environment for a Group Child-Centered Play Therapy session.
3) Describe how to balance empathic responding between participants and how to respond to resistance or conflict between participants during a Group Child-Centered Play Therapy session.
4) Demonstrate ability to structure and respond to participants during a Group Child-Centered Play Therapy session through role-play practice.
