Grounded Connection: Somatics in Nature with Alexa White

Our time spent together will invite spaciousness and curiosity. We will tune into our senses, learn and practice somatic safety exercises, and deepen relationship with Earth community. The breadth of invitations will include body-based somatic safety practices that you can do anywhere, landscape-based somatic safety practices that tend the nervous system in relationship with Earth, mindfulness practices, and meditations.
Access information: walking on uneven surfaces, up to a mile in distance, and potential exposure to stinging & biting insects and ticks and plants that could cause skin irritation and disease. Meditation, mindfulness, and somatic safety & containment exercises can be activating depending on your body’s experience. All practices are optional and we will review how to listen to our bodies' yes's and no's.
Meey Your Teacher, Alexa White
I grew up with a deep-seated appreciation for nature, especially our marine world -- my dad a bayman and my mom a biologist. We were often fishing, scalloping, clamming, cleaning beaches, and counting mushrooms! I grew up through and later worked at environmental education camps which sparked my life’s work of helping people restore their relationshipwith the land and amplify their inner voice. My facilitation is inspired by and has roots from the following frameworks, organizations, and teachers: Access Centered Movement, Joe Murray-caretaker and Farm & Forest School wisdom keeper at Pearlstone, Dr. Vanissar Tarakali-a teacher of generative somatics, Health Justice Commons, and Lisa Fazio-author of and teacher of Della Medicina, an Italian American Folk Medicine class and book. I am committed to growing a culture of care as a nature therapy guide, educator, private piano & viola instructor, and land steward. For the last 14 years, I have worked in and sometimes combine outdoor & STEAM education, program administration, trauma-informed practices, and community health work. I weave play, body wisdom, ecology, stewardship, cyclical awareness, and Earth skills as a facilitator through Earth Pace. The somatic safety practices I offer are inspired by generative somatics: "...a politicized approach to embodied leadership and trauma healing for powerful, vibrant, durable, and visionary movements for social and climate justice." (generativesomatics.org) It recognizes that we are shaped by our environment and that systemic oppression is embodied by the oppressed and oppressors expressed in our habits, ways of being, reactions, and lack of actions. Generative somatics offers an approach that grows capacity, expands presence, and supports embodiment of collective change. I offer sessions that equip people with nervous system tending tools in a politicized context alongside ecological knowledge, an experience of communing with and/or tending the land, and a deeper connection with body, community, and Earth.
