THE POWER OF PASSION, PERSEVERANCE, AND LEADERSHIP
Experience the inspiring story of how an all-black high school team broke racial barriers in Louisiana athletics. Before the West Coast explores the incredible journey of St. Augustine High School as it integrated Louisiana’s all-white athletic association, following a 1967 federal court order.
Oyd Craddock: Producer, Director, Writer, Saluki Trailblazer, SIU Foundation Board Member
Oyd Craddock, a New Orleans native and St. Augustine High School graduate, excelled as a student and football state champion before earning a football scholarship to Southern Illinois University. At SIU, he earned a degree in Business Management, setting the stage for a 31-year career at IBM in sales, marketing, and management.
Oyd’s passion for storytelling led him to produce, write, and direct Before the West Coast: A Sports Civil Rights Story, a project that reflects his leadership and ability to inspire. He also holds an MBA from Tulane University, was inducted into the SIU Sports Hall of Fame, served as an adjunct professor at Morehouse College, and was President of St. Augustine High School.
Oyd and his wife, Annette Fortune’ Craddock, have two talented children—Koya, a dancer, and Oyd II, a digital artist.
Don’t miss this opportunity to witness history, told by a dedicated Saluki who continues to make an impact in sports, business, and film.
This screening is presented by the SIU Foundation, in collaboration with the College of Arts and Media, Department of Athletics, and the Vice Chancellor for Anti-Racism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
