FIRST Public Programming - Shards

On April 13 at 6:00 PM, join us for the second day of the FIRST International Film Festival Public Programming – New York Columbia University Station, presented by IN·OR. We will be screening Shards, a deeply personal yet universally resonant feature that unfolds over the course of a single winter solstice. Against the backdrop of family rituals and quiet conversations, the film reflects on how the pandemic fractured our lives—between countries, cities, and even loved ones—and how, like the ancient craft of mending broken porcelain, we attempt to repair what’s been lost. Through intimate moments and emotional undercurrents, Shards offers a moving meditation on memory, distance, and the fragile beauty of connection. This event is part of FIRST Public Programming, bringing Chinese cinema to international audiences. FIRST Public Programming is the offline screening brand during the non-film festival. FIRST Public Programming origins from the College Tour. During the non-film festival, in the form of screening tour, Public Programming showcases the FIRST-selected films to the audience all over the world. FIRST tries to break the narrative limitation of screening space with the two-season tour: we goes to urban art space in winter and colleges in spring, trying to show young filmmakers’ works to a wider space, more viewing groups and therefore triggering more discussion.
