About this Event

About Firefly Walk

If you have never experienced the magic of the forest lighting up with fireflies or you just want to relive the happy summer nights of your childhood, join us for Firefly Walk at Pittock Conservation Area. This family-friendly night hike begins with games all about firefly development and communication. Once it's dark enough, we will begin our hike to hopefully see the fireflies dazzle in the forest and catch some in the meadow for close-up observation. We can’t wait to catch fireflies with you!

Program Notes

-Firefly Walk is a free event, but the regular vehicle gate fee will apply when entering the park.

-Registration through Eventbrite is required to attend the Firefly Walk. All participants must receive their own ticket, including children and babies, so we can have an accurate headcount.

-Please come dressed appropriately for a nighttime adventure in the woods. You may bring a flashlight or headlamp, if desired.

-Firefly Walk will run rain or shine, but will be cancelled in the case of severe inclement weather. If the event is cancelled due to inclement weather, we will communicate this via our Instagram and Facebook pages and notify all participants through email on the day of the event. We will do our best to reschedule the event to a new date/time.

-Please note this is not a drop-off program. We invite families with at least one adult to come and enjoy a classic summer pastime together.

-Onsite washrooms will be available, if needed.

-Don’t forget to pack a water bottle and nut-free snacks. No pets, please.

-We will be walking slowly on unpaved paths on mostly flat terrain with gentle slopes and covering a distance of up to 2 km. Sturdy footwear is recommended.

-All UTRCA summer events will be led by UTRCA Environmental Educators. Staff have First Aid training and Vulnerable Persons Checks. We are excited to share our passion for nature and the outdoors with you!
