Come join us for Owl Prowl, a night hike all about the adaptations of local owl species. We will begin our night by exploring how owls hunt and do a little dissection of an owl pellet. Afterwards, we will extinguish our lights to improve our night vision and move into the forest to hopefully hear some calls from the Eastern Screech Owl or the Great Horned Owl. UTRCA staff will use owl call recordings to help attract nearby owls and encourage them to make their presence known.
This event is for anyone who loves birds or wants to explore the forest by moonlight, although all children must be accompanied by an adult. Please come dressed appropriately for a nighttime adventure in the woods. You may bring a flashlight or headlamp if desired. We will be walking slowly on unpaved paths on mostly flat terrain with gentle slopes. We will be covering up to 2 km. If you have any questions about the trip, please contact Rachael Jensen in advance by emailing [email protected] in advance. We look forward to hiking with you!
