Water Safari at Pittock Conservation Area
About this Event
About Water Safari
Grab your rubber boots and get ready to make a splash at Water Safari, an outdoor adventure within Pittock Conservation Area where we will use nets to discover the wonders of a tiny but amazing world hiding underwater. We'll look for crayfish, dragonfly nymphs, predaceous diving beetles, and more! Dip nets will be provided by UTRCA staff, who will be on hand to answer questions and provide support. Any captured critters will be placed in viewing trays until the end of the program when we will have a show and tell of our discoveries, then release everyone back to their aquatic home.
Water Safari is a family-friendly event for those who love amphibians, fish, or just playing in the water, although all children must be accompanied by an adult. Please come prepared to walk in shallow water. Rubber boots are encouraged! We look forward to exploring water creatures with you!
Program Notes
-Water Safari is a free event in the part of Pittock Conservation Area that is open and free to the public. We will meet at the Splash Pad.
-This event does not require advanced registration through Eventbrite; however, there are only 40 spots available and they will be offered on a first come, first served basis. You may want to arrive early to claim your spot.
-Please come dressed appropriately for exploring shallow water. Water Safari will run rain or shine, but will be canceled in the case of severe inclement weather. If the event is cancelled due to inclement weather, we will communicate this via our Instagram and Facebook pages and notify all participants through email on the day of the event. We will do our best to reschedule the event to a new date/time.
-Please note this is not a drop-off program. We invite families with at least one adult to come and enjoy this classic pastime together.
-Don’t forget to pack a water bottle and nut-free snacks. No pets, please.
-The program will involve walking off-trail on uneven terrain with slippery slopes and covering a distance of up to 1 km. Sturdy footwear such as rubber boots are recommended.
All UTRCA summer events will be led by UTRCA Environmental Educators. Staff have First Aid training and Vulnerable Persons Checks. We are excited to share our passion for nature and the outdoors with you!
