Evening Hike | Bleaklow | 8km | Women only
About this Event
These weekday walks are happening regularly and during the summer months, we take full advantage of the longer evenings.
Starting from Snake Pass Summit, this 8km circular route takes us across the high moorland of Bleaklow, visiting several iconic landmarks along the way including Higher Shelf Stones, the Bleaklow Bomber crash site, the Kissing Stones and Bleaklow Head. Expect vast open spaces, fascinating history, and a real sense of adventure as we explore one of the Dark Peak's most distinctive areas.
This route is approximately 8km with around 200m of elevation gain. The terrain is varied, including well-made paths, flagstones, peat moorland and some uneven ground. The walk is classed as moderate, and while suitable for most walkers with a reasonable level of fitness, some previous hill walking experience and confidence on rough terrain would be beneficial.
So whether you're looking to meet other outdoorsy women in the community, discover new routes to inspire your own adventures, learn more about the Peak District's history, or simply spend an evening immersed in spectacular scenery, this walk is for you!
Distance: 5 miles/8km
Level: Easy/Moderate/Challenging: Gradual ascents and descents with some rough moorland terrain, which can be tricky if the ground is wet.
Elevation: 200m
Time: 3-4 hours
Who will be your guide?
I’m Emily, founder of Peak Outdoor Community, and I’m a Mountain Leader based in Glossop at the edge of the Dark Peak. I’ve always been outdoorsy since being a young girl but hiking became a real obsession in 2019 when I started to go solo. I aim to inspire other women to learn the many benefits of exploring in the outdoors and I’m passionate about sharing my love for adventure with you!

Mixed terrain with some well-used footpaths and trails for the most part and some gradual hills to climb. This walk is classed as moderate and suitable for most but some hill walking experience would be preferable. Please be mindful that the moorland can be more challenging depending on the weather conditions.
Toilets:
There are no toilets on this hike. If you need to go whilst we're walking, I'll point out 'wild wee' spots for us to squat in private!
Safety:
The whole point of our walks is that they are enjoyable and memorable experiences for everyone so we will keep to a slow and steady pace. It's about taking in the views, learning about the history and geology of the area and being in nature, not about rushing to the finish line. Having said that, you are responsible for your own health and safety and with all outdoor activities, there can be risks involved. If you are unsure as to whether you are fit to come on this walk, please either consult your doctor or let us know your concerns. Please inform us of any medical conditions prior to the walk. Every participant MUST complete a Medical & Disclaimer form a minimum of 24 hours before the event begins. This will be sent via email so please look out for it.
Our leaders are qualified Hill and Moorland and Mountain Leaders and level 3 Outdoor First Aid trained so they will be on hand in case of an emergency.
Dogs:
Dogs are more than welcome to come along but please ensure they remain on leads at all times.
Refund Policy*:
Refunds will only be given if the event is cancelled (see below). If you can no longer attend you are more than welcome to sell your ticket to someone else but please let us know if you do so. No swaps to other events.
And FINALLY:
This walk will be going ahead whatever the weather, unless I deem the conditions dangerous so be ready to embrace the good old British weather! If I do have to cancel the walk for safety reasons, I will suggest one more date for the walk to be rearranged or you can redeem your ticket on one other walk on a date suitable to you.
